When you come to me for care I pledge to give you mindful attention. I hope to treat you as I would wish to be treated. I hope to be aware of judgement as it arises and to laugh at the ideas that have been planted over time but bear no fruit. Those ideas that grow only thorns I will discard. Likewise, I will share with you my insight and plan of care for you so that you may approve or modify it in keeping with your goals. I do not want to make decisions for you but to assist you to achieve your desired outcome.  I do not wish to hide any insight or intention from you and will take the time to inform you and answer any questions you might have to the best of my ability. Most of the time this will reveal my lack of knowledge, at other times it will reveal the answers you seek but already have by enhancing the clarity needed to find them.

As a bedside nurse in hospital for so long it was often difficult to see information withheld from patients by physicians and sometimes families who feared the consequences of being frank. In school I have heard different philosophies from professors on disclosure that is often related by them to their religious background. My views on this are personal not derived from religion. Whatever your views and whatever you derive them from I respect them as yours. If I cannot provide what you want I will let you know and assist you to make other arrangements.

At other times it was often my responsibility as a nurse to explain what the doctor meant with all that scientific jargon. Now as an acupuncture student it is my responsibility to explain what Chinese medical jargon means and I will do my best to give you a clear understanding to the extent you wish to know. So I will tell you what I need from you and answer your questions to the best of my ability.
