Korean Acupuncture

I have committed to the Korean Acupuncture Concentration which means I will have a minor in Korean Acupuncture upon graduation. This very unusual and remarkable technique dates back to the Nei Jing, the Yellow Emperor's Classic, a collection of records detailing the fundamental understanding of the human body, its substance and functions that is thousands of years old but just as effective today. Taught and supervised by Dr Jae Hoon Kim we begin treatment by balancing Yin and Yang often with profound effects.

Before becoming an acupuncturist Dr Kim was a chemical engineer. When he began acupuncture this information was not widely available. He taught himself, questing for answers when he felt treatments needed to be more consistently effective. After more than thirty years of refining his understanding he shares this knowledge with us.

This powerful technique uses only one, two or four needles rarely more, and they are very small gauge 0.16mm Seirins, a top quality brand known for smooth and painless application. When Yin and Yang are balanced we can move on to the Zang Fu, the organ systems and balance those if necessary. Next the Six Energies, then the Opening and Closing channels if they are needed. This progression is essential for effective treatment. When the body is balanced it repairs itself.

When  acupuncture prescriptions are not effective it is because there is imbalance. For balance to be restored first there must be a correct diagnosis, then correct point selection, then correct point location, then correct point insertion and then correct point manipulation. Each aspect of this principle is informed by the knowledge retained through the centuries by Korean Acupuncturists since the Yellow Emperor's time. Modern acupuncture lost this information in the evolution of practice and culture but in time and with luck the medicine will recognize its efficacy and restore the priority of balance in treatment.

When out of balance the body's normal repair function is distracted and unable to cope with injury or disease, shunting or sequestering pathogens aside until balance is restored. Illness manifests when the repair function is overwhelmed and the body can no longer expel or keep pathogens under control. When balance is restored the body can effectively repair itself.

The most powerful acupoints are found from the elbow or knee outward. The reason these are so effective is because if chosen and used correctly they can restore balance, but using them effectively depends on understanding dynamic equilibrium and applying the right leverage.

It is my goal to help you restore balance and achieve healing efficiently and effectively.
